I Am Very Worried About My Tonsils!?

I am 12 years old and i have had 1 swollen tonsil on the left side of my mouth and its been there im sure over 6 months or so! Every time I tell my mom she just tells me to go gargle with salt water. My throat is sore very rarely but, my mouth is dry and just, ugghh gross in the morning but i believe that's normal. She says that we are going to go to the doctor tomorrow so ya. im just wondering if you guys have any comments about this. i have been very worried about this but no else has except 1 person. I have been coughing a lot to cause of, i think flu season or something. But I also see little Crater type things and it is very tender. So PLEASE let me know if you have any ideas on what this might be. thank you
